GDP Monthly Estimate: April 2024

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) statistics measure changes in the output of the economy. This is an Official Statistics in Development publication for Scotland.


Scotland’s onshore GDP is estimated to have remained flat (0.0% change) in April. This follows upwardly revised growth of 0.5% in March.

In the three months to April, GDP is estimated to have grown by 0.8% compared to the previous three month period. This indicates a slight improvement in Quarter 2 so far, after the unrevised growth of 0.7% in 2024 Quarter 1 (January to March).

In April, output in the services sector, which accounts for around three quarters of the economy, is estimated to have contracted by 0.1%. The largest contribution to growth in April was from Manufacturing, which contributed 0.3 percentage points to overall growth. Production sector output grew by 1.4% in April.
