Global biodiversity framework: Edinburgh Process - information
Information on the Edinburgh Process for subnational governments, city and local authorities on the post-2020 global biodiversity framework.
Introduction
In conjunction with the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) the Scottish Government is leading the ‘Edinburgh Process’ of consultation with sub-national governments, including regional, city and local authorities on their role in the post-2020 global biodiversity framework and targets which will be agreed at the Conference of Parties meeting – COP15 – in Kunming, China in 2021. Online information sessions, thematic webinars and online consultations have enabled the development of key outputs, including the Edinburgh Declaration, which demonstrates the commitment of subnational authorities across the world in working with parties to the Convention to deliver for nature over the next decade. These pages provide a resource for the Edinburgh Process, and the outputs generated.
The Scottish Government has worked alongside governments, networks, and other organisations in order to deliver this process. Edinburgh Process partners include:
- Welsh Government
- Government of Quebec
- European Committee of the Regions
- ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability
- Regions 4 Sustainable Development
- Group of Leading Subnational Governments toward the Aichi Biodiversity Targets
And with support from:
- UK Government, Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra)
- United Nations Environment Programme – World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC)
- NatureScot
- Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh
