Grangemouth Industrial Cluster - Just Transition: vision

Vision for the Grangemouth Industrial Cluster in 2045. The vision was co-designed with our partners from community, industry, public sector and, academia.

Overview

The Grangemouth Future Industry Board (GFIB) partners plan to deliver a Just Transition Plan for the Grangemouth industrial cluster. This document outlines the 2045 Vision for the Grangemouth industrial cluster.

This Vision should be considered as a collective outline of our ambition for the future of the Grangemouth Industrial Cluster at 2045. It was co-designed through a series of workshops in the autumn of 2023 with industry, the public sector and academia, in addition to further engagement with community, workforce and school pupils in 2024. Our co-designed vision has also been informed by Scotland’s National Just Transition Outcomes:

  • Jobs, Skills, and Economic Opportunities
  • Communities and Places
  • People and Equity
  • Environment, Biodiversity and adaptation

Moving forward, GFIB will be the principal delivery vehicle for the Grangemouth Industrial Just Transition Plan vision, and that action plan that will follow in support of its delivery. Working with stakeholders across industry, workforce and the community, GFIB will continue to ensure the strategy adjusts to the needs and aspirations of the industrial cluster. This work should therefore be considered iterative in nature, adapting as per market conditions, social needs, environmental considerations, and most importantly stakeholder feedback.

A Just Transition, to the Scottish Government and its agencies, refers both to the outcome of this change – defined as a ‘fairer, greener future for all’ – and, importantly, a process undertaken in partnership with those impacted: individuals, communities, regions, or businesses.

Purpose of this Document

This document summarises the central elements of the Grangemouth 2045 Just Transition Vision. It explains the draft vision of the future direction of the industrial cluster, which can guide future decisions and development by key stakeholders. This draft vision is part of a broader government and industry approach to ensure the Grangemouth industrial cluster continues to be an economic engine and source of local jobs and prosperity.
