Gross expenditure on research and development Scotland 2017

The latest GERD statistics, which present information on reseach and development performed in Scotland in 2017.

In 2017, Scotland’s GERD was £2,529 million, 7.3% of the total UK GERD. Between 2016 and 2017, Scotland’s GERD increased by 8.3% in real terms, up £193 million, from £2,336 million in 2016 .
In 2017, total research and development spending (GERD) as a share of GDP was 1.63% for Scotland. Spending on R&D in Scotland increased between 2016 and 2017, from 1.53% of GDP in 2016 to 1.63% of GDP in 2017, an increase of 0.10 percentage points.
