Human rights of children in Scotland: report - child friendly version

Child friendly/easy read version of our action plan 2021 to 2024 progress report.

7. What we have done to make sure children understand their rights and know how to complain if they think their rights are not being fulfilled?

Organisations who work with children and families have been and are still helping us to make sure that children, young people, parents and carers across Scotland understand children’s rights. These organisations include Together (Scottish Alliance for Children’s Rights), Young Scot, the Children’s Parliament and the Scottish Youth Parliament.

Children can also learn about the UNCRC in schools. UNICEF UK’s Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) programme helps children and teachers understand children’s rights.

In May 2022, the Scottish Government gave money to UNICEF UK for 3 years to help more schools across Scotland take part in RRSA. The RRSA has helped over 600,000 pupils to learn in a Rights Respecting school in Scotland.
