New Build Heat Standard (amended) 2024: island communities impact assessment

Addition to the New Build Heat Standard 2024 – island and communities impact assessment . It is necessary to review this in conjunction with the fuller island communities impact assessment (ICIA) to ensure the context of earlier decision making and measures are fully understood.


4. Options considered for regulatory amendment

4.1. In order to address concerns regarding the restriction of the of wood burning stoves and bioenergy, particularly in rural and island communities, the review of the NBHS considered the following options:

Option 1: implement a minor amendment to the existing emergency heating provision;

Option 2: restrict the application of the regulations to main heating systems only;

Option 3: permit the installation of all bioenergy heating (where bioenergy comes from a sustainable source) and permit the installation of all peat systems.
