  • January 2016 – 1.5 billion WhatsApp users affected in data breach.
  • May 2017 – Facebook fined $122 million by European Commission over WhatsApp takeover.
  • May 2019 – WhatsApp identifies spyware vulnerability.
  • September 2021 – WhatsApp fined €225 million (£193 million) by Irish data protection regulator.
  • Jan 2023 – WhatsApp fined €5.5 million by Irish data protection regulator.
  • May 2023 – HSBC fined $45 million by US Securities and Exchange Commission for failures over WhatsApp use by staff.
  • May 2023 – Meta fined €1.2 billion by Irish data protection regulator for mishandling data when transferring it to the US.
  • June 2023 – WhatsApp fined 3 million Rubles ($37,080).
  • August 2023 – Morgan Stanley fined £5.4 million by Ofcom for allowing business to be conducted on WhatsApp.
  • February 2024 - Banks fined $81 million for using WhatsApp.
