Information regarding Redress Scheme: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.


Information requested

  1. To date, how many individual payments have been made to each of the 26 panel members sitting on the redress decision making team?
  2. What are the salaries of the chair, deputy chair and chief executive of the redress scheme?
  3. How many applications have been seen and finalised by the panel members?
  4. How many applications have been received by the redress scheme to date?
  5. What is the average timescale for a decision to be made on a case (an average is what I am after not some 'each case is different' reply etc).
  6. Who made the decision that panel members should not hear directly from applicants instead of only considering written applications?
  7. How many government and/or external staff are currently working on the redress scheme?

Response

Questions 1-3:

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested. You may wish to contact Redress Scotland at information@redress.scot who may be able to help you.

Question 4:

I can confirm that the number of applications received by Scotland’s Redress Scheme as at 31 December 2022 to be 1960.

Question 6:

I can confirm that panel members can hear directly from applicants, with oral representations used as part of the decision making process when Redress Scotland consider this necessary. This information can be found in statutory guidance published on the Scottish Government website. You might also find some helpful information on the Scottish Parliament website about the scrutiny of the Redress for Survivors (Historical Child Abuse in Case) (Scotland) Bill. Under section 25(1) of FOISA, we do not have to give you information which is already reasonably accessible to you. If, however, you do not have internet access to obtain this information from the website(s) listed, then please contact me again and I will send you a paper copy.

Question 7:

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested. I can confirm that the total number of staff working on the redress scheme, based in core Scottish Government, to be 56. The Scottish Government does not hold information about how many staff are working in Redress Scotland.
