About the Purpose and Principles

Post school education, research and skills development includes colleges, universities, community learning, apprenticeships, and on-the-job training. These all help people in our communities and from around the world to develop the skills and knowledge they need.

This document sets out what we want post school education, research and skills development in Scotland to be like. We call these the Purpose and Principles.

This is a challenging time for people, public services and our economy. We want to agree a set of principles and a purpose which will help us to make the right decisions about the outcomes we want from the post school education, research and skills development system.

This gives us a chance to talk about changes needed in the post school education, research and skills development system that will keep the things we think are important while spending less money and getting better outcomes.
