Project Boards
Project Boards were established to provide strategic direction for the projects by:
- supporting and advising on the scope of the projects
- ensuring that account was taken of all relevant work undertaken nationally and internationally
- ensuring the projects connected with other relevant work
- advising on the process and methodology
- receiving and commenting on interim reports
- ensuring open and effective communication with key stakeholders and representative bodies
- ensuring that all project deliverables were addressed
- considering, commenting on and approving the final report of the projects.

Practitioner Reference Group
The purpose of the Practitioner Reference Group was to ensure participation and expert contribution in the projects by nurses and midwives from a range of specialties, including adult acute care, paediatrics and neonatal nursing, midwifery, community hospitals, mental health and learning disabilities. A number participated in the workshops and 33 completed the stakeholder questionnaire.
Clinical Facilitator Network
To support the development phase of the projects, clinical facilitators from each NHS board were invited to participate in a nationally coordinated learning and development network. This network was coordinated by the project manager and the purpose was to facilitate a learning system where each of the development sites could actively learn from one another and participate in the development of the Framework for the Senior Charge Nurse Role, Clinical Quality Indicators and the national data-capture and reporting system.
