Learning together national action plan: update
This update to the 2018 – 2021 national action plan promotes flexibility and innovation as support for local authorities when developing their strategy.
Learning at home
Learning at home is crucial for children to learn and develop. As parents and carers are predominantly the primary educators of their children, they should receive information and support to help develop their child’s learning at home and in the community.
Research shows that learning at home can have significant immediate and longer-term impacts on children. These can include early learning, later achievements, nurture, resilience, wellbeing, social mobility and skills for life. It is also an ongoing priority within the parental engagement driver of the National Improvement Framework.
A positive home learning environment can make a significant difference to a child’s learning. The section on ‘child’s voice’ statements highlights an effective method of engaging and gaining the perspective of children and young people’s experiences between home and school.
Education Scotland host a useful online resource, Learning at Home. This provides guidance for parents and families to support learning at home in a number of areas including literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing.
