Mental Health Nursing Review: monthly updates

Brief updates on the work of the Scottish Mental Health Nursing Review for mental health nurses and other stakeholders who are interested in the work of the Review.

July 2024 update

Recent activities:

  • completion of The National Mental Health Nursing Conversation - over 1000 mental health nurses from a variety of settings (including students and academics) engaged with the process. We are extremely grateful to everyone who shared their views
  • analysis of the National Mental Health Nursing Conversation has now been concluded by our analytical colleagues and a report will be shared shortly with the Steering Group for consideration
  • we continue to receive submissions of examples of positive and innovative practice via the mental health nursing review questionnaire
  • we have met with colleagues from Tayside who have had experience of Human Centred Design Principle to develop our knowledge on how we best maintain a focus on co-design as we progress the Review
  • the Leadership Advisory Group and Practitioner Reference Group continue with monthly meetings

Next steps include:

  • following analysis of the National Mental Health Nursing Conversation feedback, in partnership with the Leadership Advisory Group and Practitioner Reference Group, we will consider potential thematic subgroups required for the next stage of the Review
  • finalise planning for a series of group interviews based on the thematic analysis, including engagement events for students, academic staff and mental health nurses working in social care settings
  • continue to work with colleagues who have expertise in design thinking to identify tools/techniques that we can utilise in defining Review themes
  • consider final recommendations from the Nursing and Midwifery Taskforce, and linkages to the work of the Review
