Mental Health Nursing Review: monthly updates

Brief updates on the work of the Scottish Mental Health Nursing Review for mental health nurses and other stakeholders who are interested in the work of the Review.

May 2024 update

Recent activities:

  • the Leadership Advisory and Practitioner Reference Groups have had their first meetings
  • we continue to call for submissions of examples of positive and innovative practice
  • we have reviewed reports from Voices of Experience (VOX) and the Carers Trust offering their perspectives on mental health nursing, sharing these with the Leadership Advisory and Practitioner Reference Groups for their consideration and feedback
  • planning has been completed for our National Mental Health Nursing Conversations which will start later in May. This will be a significant focus for the next stage of the Review
  • engaged with colleagues from RCN UK to share our work thus far and plans going forward
  • we have been exploring how best to engage with MH nurses who work in sectors beyond the NHS

Next steps include:

  • make a web-based option available so MH nurses can engage with the National Mental Health Nursing Conversation on an individual or group basis, and in all settings
  • meet with colleagues who are leading the Nursing and Midwifery Taskforce Listening Project to hear feedback from that work
  • finalise making our literature review available via a digital workspace called Objective Connect
  • introduce a digital platform through which our advisory groups can consider Review themes and offer structured feedback
  • finalise planning for stakeholder events with MH nurses who are not working in the NHS
  • formally announce our new Review Chair
