Ministerial involvement in court cases: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

How many other court cases, along with your Ministers, involved yourselves with court cases?

Response

We have interpreted your request to mean how many undertakings had Scottish Ministers given in extradition cases where surrender was made conditional on the requested person being returned: i.e. the number of times Scottish Ministers have provided an undertaking to a foreign country that a foreign national would be returned to Scotland to stand trial, on the condition that if they were convicted, they would be returned to serve a sentence in the country to which that undertaking was given.

We have provided that information for the past five years, in the table below.

Year Number of Undertakings given
2018 2
2019 4
2020 1
2021 2
2022 2
