This report details the findings of a scoping exercise to better understand miscarriage care in Scotland within this Health Board. The individual Health Board reports and the national report seek to aid policy makers and Health Boards in making decisions about improvements to Miscarriage Care
Referrals and assessment following a loss
All sites were asked if they provide or can access referrals and assessments for support services following a loss.
In NHS Fife, Victoria Hospital was asked if they are able to provide the assessments and referrals listed below in Table 17. The majority of referrals and assessment are carried out at Victoria Hospital. However, regarding referring women to NHS services for mental health following a loss, referrals are only offered to those who have a history and obvious need for the service and is not provided to all women. NHS Fife is able to provide general counselling to all women who have experienced a loss by the early pregnancy unit nursing staff. If women need further counselling, they are referred to the medical team for directed counselling; one-to-one counselling services specifically for women who have suffered a loss are not available as an NHS service, however Victoria Hospital is able to refer women to third party services for counselling after a loss.
