This report details the findings of a scoping exercise to better understand miscarriage care in Scotland within this Health Board. The individual Health Board reports and the national report seek to aid policy makers and Health Boards in making decisions about improvements to Miscarriage Care

Written clinical guidance

In NHS Lothian, both sites offer written clinical guidance for clinical staff on the appropriate treatment and care for miscarriage. Both sites agree or strongly agree that all necessary staff that require access to this clinical guidance have access to it and that this guidance is followed for women experiencing miscarriage.

There are nurses/midwives with additional specialist training for recurrent miscarriage at St John’s Hospital, however this is not provided at Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and there are currently no plans to implement this in the future due to a lack of resources to recruit and train staff. Additional services provided are shown in Table 23 below.
