Miscarriage Care and Facilities in Scotland: Scoping Report NHS Orkney
This report details the findings of a scoping exercise to better understand miscarriage care in Scotland within this Health Board. The individual Health Board reports and the national report seek to aid policy makers and Health Boards in making decisions about improvements to Miscarriage Care
Referrals and assessment following a loss
All sites were asked if they provide or can access referrals and assessments for support services following a loss.
All women experiencing miscarriage are treated at Balfour Hospital, referrals and assessment shown below in Table 13 are not provided on site they can be referred or accessed locally within the Health Board area. These are provided by community mental health team rather than maternity. There is some access to chaplaincy services for bereavement support following a loss, although not currently any NHS provision locally. Third party services for bereavement support following a loss are provided by SANDS or SIMBA, with third party services for counselling following a loss also provided by local and national third sector organisations.
