Staff guidance, skills and training

Written clinical guidance

In NHS Tayside, all sites have access via Staffnet to written clinical guidance for clinical staff on the appropriate treatment and care for miscarriage at all gestations. Ninewells Hospital strongly agrees that all necessary staff that require access to this clinical guidance have access to it and that this guidance is followed for women experiencing miscarriage. However, Perth Royal Infirmary and Arbroath Infirmary agree that all necessary staff that require access to this clinical guidance have access to it (via Staffnet) and neither agree or disagree that this guidance is followed for women experiencing miscarriage (Table 22).

Regarding specialised training to deal with all baby loss, to provide comprehensive miscarriage care and specialist training for nurses, midwives and medical staff for recurrent miscarriage care, Perth Royal Infirmary stated that they are not able to provide these due to a lack of available training options. Arbroath Infirmary reported that currently they do not provide any of the services shown in Table 23, however they did state that these are available on another site within the Health Board.
