Key discussion points
The group discussed:
- draft healthcare recommendations on Gender Identity Services, including national standards for gender identity services, funding, waiting times and neuro-divergent people
- draft healthcare recommendations on Mental Health, including specialist and mainstream mental health care for trans people
- draft healthcare recommendations on Primary Care, including CHI number change; training for GPs, medical students, nurses, dentist, pharmacists etc; name changing process across multiple services; ability for patients to self-refer to speech and language therapy and for this to be brought to attention of GPs
- draft healthcare recommendations on Fertility Preservation, including potential legal issues and inclusion of those working in fertility preservation in training for healthcare providers
- the length of the recommendation document and suggested to look over examples of recommendation documents previously submitted to ministers
Actions
- SG officials will inquire about whether or not funding for education programmes for medical areas is devolved to Scotland
- SG officials will contact other policy areas to gather examples of recommendation documents and forward this on to the group and explain the process of presenting this document to ministers before the general recommendation revision session on 23 February 2022
