Self-harm strategy and action plan 2023-2027: outcomes framework

Outcomes framework designed to guide the delivery, monitoring, and reporting of the self-harm strategy and action plan. It has been developed and tested with key stakeholders, who we will continue to engage with throughout implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

Part 4: Role of Self-Harm Network Scotland

As discussed above, some of the measures used will come from existing data and evidence. One of the most relevant sources of data and evidence, which we will measure and report against, is evaluation data gathered by SHNS.

SHNS was established during development of the Strategy and Action Plan. It created a new bespoke self-harm support service and training. Information about the inception of the service and the support and resources SHNS provides is detailed in the Strategy and Action Plan.

The service model has continued to be refined since its initial pilot in 2021. This includes a greatly expanded training offer (including a train the trainer model) to further increase knowledge and understanding about self-harm across a range of services, settings and communities. In addition, SHNS will expand their community-based support through work with organisations and settings across Scotland to tailor support and training to meet the needs of both adults, and children and young people. Furthermore, a professional network is in development to bring together a range of individuals and services who have an interest in self-harm. This forum will allow for learning to be shared, and discussions of best practice and policy at both a national and local level.

SHNS provides qualitative and quantitative data, and evaluation on take up of support and training. It also provides an annual impact report with an evidence-based narrative. We will use this information in our reporting to show how SHNS are contributing to both the short-term and medium-term outcomes in this Outcomes Framework.
