Parental Involvement and Engagement Census Scotland 2021/22
Statistical publication providing information on the Parental Involvement and Engagement Census 2021/22.
Response Rate
In 2021/22, 38,657 responses were received. Due to the method of implementation, it is not possible to calculate response rates. All parents/carers were invited to respond, based on the local authority promotional/communication methods.
There is no national sample frame of parents/carers with primary and secondary aged children in local authority schools in Scotland. Estimates of the potential number of parents/carers from the 2011 population census indicate 341,000 parents/carers of dependent children aged 5 – 11 years, and 302,000 parents/carers of dependent children aged 12-18 years. This estimate is based on 2011 census count of 200,715 households with dependent children aged 5-11 years and 178,671 households with dependent children aged 12-15.
Additionally parents/carers with more than one child in the same school were asked to respond based on their experience of involvement and engagement with the school for one of their children attending that school. Parents/carers with children in different schools were invited to respond for each school their children attend. Where possible, both parents/carers were invited to respond.
Table 1 below sets out the number of responses received by parental characteristic.
