Police Officer Quarterly Strength Statistics Scotland, 31 March 2012

Scotland's Chief Statistician today published the latest quarterly figures on the number of police officers employed by Scottish forces. The main findings are:

  • There were 17,436 police officers (full-time equivalent) in Scotland on 31 March 2012.
  • This total comprises 16,903 police officers deployed in the eight Scottish police forces (including Additional Regular Police), and 533 on secondment or central service.
  • Police officer numbers have increased by 93 full-time equivalent (FTE) officers in the last quarter from 31 December 2011 (0.5%). There has been an increase of 173 FTE officers in the last year from 31 March 2011 (1.0%).
