Producing official statistics
How official statistics are produced and published by the Scottish Government and other bodies.
Planning and pre-announcing official statistics
The Code of Practice for Statistics requires that the release of official statistics are announced in advance, with a provisional month of publication announced 12 months in advance, and an exact publication date announced 4 to 6 weeks in advance. This is to maintain transparency in the publication of official statistics.
The exact dates that statistical publications are released by the Scottish Government is determined by the principles and practices outlined in the Code of Practice for Statistics, and under the guidance of professional statisticians and the Chief Statistician.
The standard release times for official and national statistical releases is 09:30am on a weekday. Some publications may have an agreed alternative release time. The Office for Statistics Regulation website has more information.
