Progress Report on Scotland's Action Plan for Rare Diseases

Scotland's Scotland Rare Disease Action Plan, published in December 2022, outlined steps to improve lives for those with rare conditions. This report reviews our initial progress, aligned with the 2021 UK Rare Diseases Framework.

9. Conclusion

This report provides an update on progress against the 18 actions outlined in Scotland’s Rare Disease Action Plan as well as setting out the priorities for the year ahead.

Significant progress has been made but we know there is more we can be doing to improve the lives of those living with rare conditions and we remain committed to making those improvements. However, it should be noted that work is being progressed in a challenging delivery environment. This includes the challenges being experienced across the whole health and social care system, as well as the significant financial constraints. This may impact on how much progress can be made in the next year; however, we remain committed to working closely with our community to progress and deliver as many of our actions as possible.

Throughout all of our work we will continue to ensure that people living with rare conditions shape our progress and The Scottish Government remains committed to ensuring that all those people living with a rare condition are able to access the best possible care and support, and benefit from healthcare services that are safe, effective, and person-centred.
