National litter and flytipping strategy: baseline report
This report was completed as part of the National Litter and Flytipping Strategy (NLFS) year one action plan, action 18; to Improving consistency of flytipping data data by developing a flytipping baseline for Scotland, identifying data gaps and changes that may be needed in the future.
Appendix 2 – private landowner engagement
As previously mentioned in the Methodology, private landowners were anticipated to be the most challenging stakeholder group to engage with due to the wide variety in stakeholder types and also because flytipping incidents may not be recorded by individual landowners, organisations that manage private land or membership groups.
The survey asked private landowners the following questions:
- Do you/your organisation/your organisation’s members record the number of flytipping incidents that occur on your land/their land/land that your organisation manages?
- Do you/your organisation/your organisation’s members report flytipping incidents to any of the enforcement bodies (local authorities, SEPA, Police Scotland, Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority)?
- In the financial year 2022/23, how many flytipping incidents did you/your organisation/your organisation’s members report to an enforcement body?
- What, if any, are the barriers to reporting flytipping incidents on your land/land that your organisation manages/your member’s land?
- If you report cases to an enforcement body, are you aware of any enforcement action being undertaken?
- Do you have any other comments related to this project?
Unfortunately, limited data was obtained from this stakeholder group.
