Public appointment: Member reappointed to Bòrd na Gàidhlig

The Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, Ms Gilruth, today announced the reappointment of Stewart MacLeod as a Member of Bòrd na Gàidhlig.

Member

Stewart MacLeod is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), and brings finance and accounting knowledge and experience to the role of Chair of the Audit and Assurance Committee. He has been involved in Gaelic-related activities and organisations over many years, and is interested in the promotion and maintenance of the language amongst learners and the traditional communities.

Reappointment

This reappointment will be for four years and will run from 16 March 2024 to 15 March 2028.

This reappointment is regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.

Remuneration

This reappointment is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £194 per day for a time commitment of up to three days per month.

Stewart MacLeod does not hold any other public appointments.

Political activity

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.   

Stewart MacLeod has had no political activity within the last five years.

Background

Bòrd na Gàidhlig is a statutory Non Departmental Public Body established under the Gaelic Language (Scotland) Act 2005 and is responsible for safeguarding the future of Gaelic in Scotland; for promoting the use and understanding of the Gaelic language and for developing and supporting Gaelic education and culture.
