Public appointment: Member reappointed to Grampian Health Board

The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Neil Gray MSP, today confirmed the reappointment of Derick Murray as a Member of Grampian NHS Board.

Member

Derrick Murray worked on and led a number of road and rail projects including the development of the Regional Transport Strategy, during his working career in Local Authority. He instigated the Nestrans Health and Transport Action Plan, and has previous Board level experience as Director of Nestrans. Derick also has 4 years Board experience on the NHS Grampian Board and the Moray IJB. He brings lived experience of being a patient, a patient supporter and a strong desire to improve the health and social care that his parents received. He looks forward to working with the Board in this post pandemic period where opportunity exists to transform services for the better. 

Appointment

This reappointment will be for 4 years and will run  from 15 April 2025 to 14 April 2029.

This appointment is regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.

Remuneration

This reappointment is one day per week (52 days per year) and attracts a remuneration of £11,700 for a time commitment of 1 days per week.

Derrick Murray does not hold any other public appointments.

Political activity

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.  

Derrick Murray has had no political activity within the last five years.

Background

Through hospital and local based services, NHS Grampian is responsible for meeting the health needs of the half-million population spread over 3,000 square miles of city, town, village and rural communities.  Since April 2016 NHS Grampian’s fully integrated Health and Social Care Partnerships became fully operational across their three Local Authority areas of Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray and NHS Grampian works closely with the three Integration Joint Boards covering these areas. NHS Grampian is also very closely linked with both the University of Aberdeen and The Robert Gordon University, especially in the fields of research, workforce planning and training.
