Public appointment: Members appointed to Lanarkshire NHS Board

The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Neil Gray MSP today announced the appointment of Scott Haldane and Jane Duffty as Members of the Lanarkshire NHS Board.

Members

Scott Haldane is a Chartered Accountant by Profession with extensive experience as a Director of Finance in the NHS both North and South of the Border. Most recently, Scott has been the Interim Chief Executive at the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) pending his retirement in March 2025, having previously been the Chief Finance Officer (CFO) at CPFT from 2015 and, before that, as CFO at Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust. A Lanarkshire resident, Mr Haldane has also been involved with a number of Boards in a Non-Executive capacity, including currently as a Lay Governor of Glasgow Caledonian University and as Chair of Edinburgh Leisure, an ‘arm’s length body’ of the City of Edinburgh Council responsible for the management and running of the City’s Leisure and Sports estate.

Dr Jane Duffty is one of the Intensive Care Medicine Anaesthetists working in NHS Lanarkshire. Dr Duffty started working in University Hospital Hairmyres in 2011 and over the last 13 years has developed an interest in education, team working, patient safety, and staff wellbeing. Dr Duffty’s intimate knowledge of working within NHS Lanarkshire will knowledge will compliment her areas of interest to help support NHS Lanarkshire deliver ‘Our Health Together- Living Our Best Lives in Lanarkshire’. This year, Dr Duffty took up the role of President of the Glasgow and West of Scotland society of Anaesthetists.  This reflects the high regard Dr Duffty is held in by her colleagues, both within NHS Lanarkshire and the wider West of Scotland. 

Appointment

This appointment will be for 4 years and will run from 1 November 2024 to 31 October 2028.

This appointment is regulated by the Ethical Standards Commissioner.

Remuneration

This appointment is part-time and attracts a remuneration of £9,030 for a time commitment of 1 day per month.

Other ministerial appointments

Mr Haldane and Dr Duffty do not hold any other public appointments.

Political activity

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process.  However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.   

Mr Haldane and Dr Duffty have had no political activity within the last five years.

NHS Lanarkshire is one of fourteen territorial Health Boards in Scotland.

The Health Board’s role is to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Lanarkshire and to deliver high quality, person-centred care. In doing so, NHS Lanarkshire provides a comprehensive range of primary, community-based and acute and psychiatric hospital services for the population. 

NHS Lanarkshire has two Health & Social Care Partnerships – covering North and South Lanarkshire. It also works in close strategic partnership with the University of Strathclyde, the University of the West of Scotland and Caledonian University.
