Recruitment: candidate guide

A detailed guide for applicants interested in applying for a job with the Scottish Government.

Guaranteed interview schemes

The Scottish Government is committed to employing a diverse workforce which is reflective of our population.

We currently offer 2 guaranteed interview schemes aimed at helping candidates with a disability and veterans of our armed forces successfully navigate the recruitment process.

Further information on each of the schemes is included below.

Disability Confident Scheme

The Scottish Government is committed to the “Positive about Disabled People” scheme and we offer all candidates who consider themselves to have a disability and who meet the minimum essential criteria for the post, a guaranteed interview.

To take up the option of a guaranteed interview, candidates should tick the relevant option during the application process.

Under the terms of the scheme, candidates should consider themselves to have a disability in terms of the Equality Act 2010. Further guidance in relation to the meaning of disability is accessible on the Equality and Human Rights Commission website.

We will also consider and implement any adjustments to our standard recruitment processes to help applicants perform at their best. For further information on requesting adjustments see the relevant section of this guide: Requesting adjustments.

Veterans Scheme

The Scottish Government is committed to providing opportunities to veterans of our armed forces and we offer a guaranteed interview scheme for veterans and service leavers.

To take up the option of a guaranteed interview, candidates should tick the relevant option during the application process.
