The measures will ensure that, even where a death is subject to coronial investigation in another UK jurisdiction, the bereaved will be able to choose to have a burial or cremation in Scotland without extended delay, provided the coroner provides the required authorisation. Without the measure, individuals would either require to wait for the death to be registered, or arrange a burial or cremation in the jurisdiction where the coronial investigation is occurring..
