I enclose a copy of the information we hold relevant to what you have requested.

The Scottish Government, through sportscotland, provides funding to the Scottish FA. This helps support a wide range of grassroots activity, including developing women and girls’ football, all of which aims to provide a pathway for anyone to enjoy participating in football. During 2017-2018, the number of female registered players increased from 10,416 to 12,202 (17%), exceeding the long-term outcome of 12,000 female players by 31 December 2018. The latest data we hold, provided by the Scottish FA, is that at the end of 2021, there were just under 17,000 registered female players and the SFA had a target of reaching 18,750 by the end of 2022 and reaching 25,000 by 2025.

The Accelerate Our Game strategy was been produced in partnership with UEFA and outlines the association’s journey within six key pillars of activity, each with a Gamechanger objective to make a difference to all areas of the girls’ and women’s game from grassroots to the elite level. The Scottish FA were selected by UEFA as one of six national associations to embark on building a women’s football strategy where, led by the Scottish FA’s then-head of girls’ and women’s football Fiona McIntyre, UEFA assisted the process which has had input from wide ranging areas of the game in Scotland.

However, you may wish to contact the Scottish FA, Scottish Professional Football League and the Scottish Women's Premier League who may be able to provide more in depth information. You should note that these organisations do not fall under Freedom of Information legislation.
