Scottish agricultural survey: December 2016
Annual agricultural survey based on data from larger agricultural holdings together with estimates for smaller farms.
1. Main Findings
The areas planted in December 2016 increased compared to the previous year, with oilseed rape up eight per cent and wheat up two per cent. The area planted as oats was the largest in the last ten years.

Overall production of hay and silage decreased in 2016, due to a drop in the yields.

The number of sheep, pigs and poultry rose for the second successive year, while the decrease in cattle reversed the upward trend seen in the previous two years.
