Review of Upper GI Cancer Quality Performance Indicators Consultation

Inviting views on the revised upper gastrointestinal (GI) cancer Quality Performance Indicators (QPIs).


Footnotes

a. Patients may undergo endoscopies which are not related to their cancer diagnosis therefore within the measurement of this QPI the 'initial endoscopy and biopsy' will be identified if no endoscopy occurred within the previous year.

b. TNM classification is a system for staging the extent of cancer. T describes the size of the tumour. N refers to the involvement of the lymph nodes. M refers to the presence of metastatic disease.

c. Patients presenting with stage TxNxM 1 disease have metastatic cancer where the extent of primary tumour or lymph node involvement cannot be assessed.

d. Oncological treatments included are as follows:

Curative:

  • Chemoradiotherapy
  • Peri-operative chemotherapy (this includes neo-adjuvant and adjuvant chemotherapy / chemoradiotherapy)

Palliative:

  • Chemotherapy
