What is colocation

Colocation is the term used to describe when an organisation uses the space, power, cooling, connectivity and physical security of a data centre owned by another party for hosting their servers. This delivery model provides everything needed to support an organisation's ICT operations without the capital expenditure associated with building or renovating an onsite data centre.

When two public sector organisations enter into this type of arrangement it is done through the rental of the space, with each organisation entering into an agreement on their responsibilities for ensuring an effective service.
