Scotland's International Goods Trade: Quarter 2 2023

This report contains Scotland's trade in goods data from the latest release of HMRC's Regional Trade Statistics (RTS).

Compared to the previous year, the value of Scotland’s goods imports increased by 12.2% (£3.8 billion) to £35.1 billion in the year ending June 2023, which is the same proportional increase as seen by the UK (12.2%). The increase was largely driven by growth in the value of power generating machinery (up 56.5%, £1.1 billion), gas (up 9.4%, £797 million), and oil (up 28.1%, £397 million) imports.

Imports from the EU increased by around a fifth (21.5%), and imports from non-EU countries increased by 7.9% during this period. Norway was the top country for Scotland’s goods imports, accounting for a quarter (25%) of the value of Scotland’s goods imports in the year ending June 2023.
