14. This is unsurprising as SIMD is generally poor at capturing rural deprivation as deprivation is more spatially dispersed in rural locations compared to urban areas – see Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD): Rural Deprivation Evidence Summary - gov.scot (www.gov.scot)

50. Note that due to the timescales of the survey programme, some addresses were considered under the; mast scheduled’ category, but during subsequent rounds were then considered to be in the ‘mast installed’ category. Hence some addresses were issued both ‘scheduled’ and combined surveys, so the number of unique addresses (1399) does not equal the total number of surveys sent.

51. See Rural Scotland Key Facts 2021 - gov.scot (www.gov.scot)

52. A further 3 respondents were not sure if they had signed up to a broadband contract.

53. One respondent did not answer the ‘Operator’ questions.

54. Some respondents did not answer both ‘prior’ and ‘since’ questions in the survey for connectivity.

55. Note that this was a multi-choice question and therefore respondents were able to select more than one response – the percentages therefore do not sum to 100%

57. These four aspects are well established in the literature and are often referred to as the Office for National Statistics four aspects of personal wellbeing or the ONS4

59. While there were 53 ‘before’ surveys received,10 people did not respond to the wellbeing questions.

60. Note that due to rounding the difference is 0.2 rather than 0.1 as the preceding columns may suggest.

61. Note that one business did not respond to this question.

62. The question on home working was not directed to the businesses who indicated that they were sole traders – note that two businesses did not specify whether they were a sole trader or not.

64. SRN is a UK government led programme which aims to provide 4G coverage to 280,000 premises, an additional 16,000km2 of roads, and National Parks and Areas of Natural Beauty across the UK. The majority of funding is being invested in Scotland, with a forecast 74% improvement in the country by the end of the programme in 2027. Four Mobile Network Operators (MNO) EE, Three, Virgin Media O2 and Vodafone will deliver 4G coverage to 95% of the UK landmass by the end of 2025. It is understood that S4GI sites were assessed for alignment with the SRN network.
