Review of Scottish Government activity affecting the welfare of animals, as sentient beings – 17 November 2021

SAWC produced a report reviewing the delivery of animal welfare commitments made by the Scottish Government over the past five years, including its policy and legislative proposals. Future annual reports will review the previous 12 monthly periods.

Letter to Cabinet Secretary on LSE Study on Cephalopod and Decapod Sentience – 12 April 2022

SAWC provided a view on a London School of Economics study on cephalopod and decapod sentience, while welcoming the review of the evidence and evaluation by the LSE research team.

Letter to Minister of Community Safety on Fireworks – 10 May 2022

SAWC followed the progress of the Fireworks and Pyrotechnic Articles (Scotland) Bill and offered its views on the potential of the Bill to address animal welfare even more comprehensively.

Letter to RAINE Committee on Greyhound Racing in Scotland – 23 May 2022

SAWC responded to a letter from the Rural Affairs, Islands and Natural Environment Committee asking for the Commission's views about the welfare issues of greyhound racing in Scotland.

Written advice on the issues associated with the proximity of seals to farmed fish – 12 August 2022

This advice was given to Scottish Government's Marine Scotland Licensing Operations Team.

Final Exotic Pets Report and Scoping Review – 11 November 2022

SAWC produced a final report on the welfare of exotic pets in Scotland, following an initial report on the welfare of exotic pets in Scotland in 2021. A scoping review conducted by Scotland's Rural College (SRUC) on the evidence of exotic pets in Scotland was also published.

Snaring Review – 9 December 2022

SAWC produced a position paper on the live trapping of terrestrial wild animals using snares for lethal control in Scotland.

Beavers Report – 13 December 2022

SAWC produced a report on the welfare of beavers in Scotland.
