Scottish Annual Business Statistics 2022

Data relating to the Production, Construction and Service Sectors in Scotland.


Headline results

SABS presents estimates of employment, turnover, purchases, approximate Gross Value Added and labour costs. Data are provided for businesses that operate in Scotland. Data are classified according to the industry sector, location and ownership of the business. The latest SABS data are for the calendar year 2022, with data provided back to 2008.

  • in 2022, approximate Gross Value Added at basic prices (aGVA) of the non-financial business economy was estimated to be £124.7 billion, this is an increase of 21.8% compared with 2021
  • between 2021 and 2022, aGVA increased for all four of the broad sectors of the non-financial business economy; Services aGVA was up by 19.6%, Primary Industries up by 42.9%, Manufacturing up by 8.0% and Construction up by 5.5%
  • within Services, the ‘Travel Agency and Tour Operator’ division saw the largest percentage increase in aGVA between 2021 and 2022
  • within Manufacturing, the ‘Manufacture of Beverages’ division saw the largest aGVA increase between 2021 and 2022
