Scottish Child Payment and the labour market

This publication presents Scottish Government analysis of how Scottish Child Payment interacts with the labour market in Scotland including how it impacts labour market decisions of its clients.

Evaluation Evidence

101. The Scottish Government published an interim evaluation[33] of SCP in 2022 and intend to publish a further evaluation in 2025. As part of this work, the following logic model was published and sets out how a medium-term outcome of SCP is expected to be a reduction in barriers to education and the labour market for clients.

102. As part of the interim evaluation there is only a limited amount of evidence that SCP has reduced barriers to education and the labour market. However, examples given by recipients include using the money to pay for travel to interviews, a new job, or college.

103. A further evaluation will be published in 2025 and will include a survey of around 1500 SCP clients, followed by interviews, asking to what extent their labour market decisions have been affected by SCP, if at all. This should provide valuable qualitative and quantitative evidence of how SCP is interacting with clients’ labour market decisions.
