Scottish Consumer Sentiment Indicator: 2021 Quarter 3

The latest results for consumer sentiment in Scotland based on a quarterly survey of households’ current sentiment and future expectations of economic performance, household finances and attitudes to spending.


Main findings

In Q3 2021, the Scottish Consumer Sentiment Indicator stood at 6.5. Compared to Q2 2021, the overall (composite) indicator increased by 7.3 points, implying a strengthening in sentiment over the period and a further marked improvement from the series’ lows in 2020 that have reflected the significant economic and financial challenges faced by households during the pandemic.

The Scottish Consumer Sentiment Indicator is a composite measure of consumer sentiment in Scotland based on a quarterly survey of households’ current sentiment and future expectations of: Scottish economic performance, security of households’ financial position, and attitudes to spending money.

The Scottish Consumer Sentiment Indicator is an experimental statistical release. It remains in development and we are gathering views on the content, style and presentation. The latest survey for Q2 2021 was conducted between 30 June and 27 September 2021. The indicator represents the balance of respondents who report that consumer sentiment is positive/negative.
