Living donation update
Update given by:

Education and publicity
The Living Donation awareness campaign in January 2024 resulted in multimedia coverage throughout Scotland, including STV news, BBC The Nine, radio, newspaper and social media. Units reported increased enquires in response to particular stories.
The Minister for Public Health and Women’s Health, Ms Jenni Minto, spent a day at the Edinburgh Transplant Centre, hearing about the Renal Education and Choices at Home (REACH) Transplant initiative from staff and a donor/recipient pair. She then attended theatre to watch a living donor transplant.
Timely transplantation
The short-term working group, chaired by Ms Karen Stevenson, Cons Transplant Surgeon, Glasgow, continues work to explore barriers to timely transplantation in Scotland, including pre-emptive living donor transplantation and timely listing for deceased donor transplantation. The group consists of representatives from the clinical community, SG and commissioners. Data collection will be presented at the next meeting on 1 May 2024
REACH transplant
REACH Transplant enters the second year of national rollout. An ongoing programme of education and peer support continues both online and via in person meetings. A poster presentation outlining the programme has been accepted for the UK Kidney Week meeting being held in Edinburgh in June 2024.
Living donor coordinator competencies
A working group has completed national competencies for coordinators and specialist nurses working in living donation in Scotland – these are awaiting validation and will be circulated shortly.
