Education and publicity
A comprehensive induction programme has been facilitated for the newly appointed Renal Education and Choices at Home (REACH) Transplant Specialist Nurses, with the support of a number of renal and transplant healthcare professionals in Scotland. Three virtual sessions were complemented by a face-to-face meeting at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, where we welcomed Lisa Burnapp to address a number of UK wide topics.
REACH Transplant information booklet for recipients has been completed and distributed to all units. This booklet is designed to provide information for people who may need a kidney transplant in the future and will back up the information given at a home visit.
The Human Tissue Authority team travelled to Edinburgh to facilitate a comprehensive Independent Assessor training day in June for the newly recruited Scottish Independent Assessors.
Travel for transplant
With the increase in cases of patients seeking transplants out with the UK, and the change in legislation in 2022, work has commenced to ensure all recipients in Scotland are aware of the legal implications.
REACH transplant
All REACH Transplant nurses are now in post in the nine NHS Boards. The evaluation tools are being piloted for an initial six months.
Health-check questionnaire returns to all units
Health-check questionnaire returns for altruistic/directed donors and direct recipients.
