Scottish Donation and Transplant Group written update: August 2024
Written updates from the meeting of the group held on 22 August 2024.
Paediatric transplant activity
Update given by:
- Ben Reynolds, Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist
As of January 2024, the paediatric service has completed:
- seven transplants in total. Only one transplant was pre-emptive, all other patients were on dialysis beforehand (aiming for 30%)
- three living related donor transplants, four deceased donors - including one Tier A patient (waited seven years) and one long-wait patient (waited over three years)
A further living related donor transplant is planned just prior to the August Scottish Donation and Transplant Group meeting. If that goes ahead, eight transplants with a 50% living related donor rate.
Organ decline rate for our unit is 0%. All organs offered have been accepted (UK average paediatric decline rate ~65% currently)
We currently have a historic low number of patients on dialysis with only two patients on haemodialysis (one of whom is due to have a transplant soon) and only four on peritoneal dialysis.
