Written updates from the meeting of the group held on 14 December 2023.
Living kidney donation
Update given by:
- Jen Lumsdaine, Living Donor Co-ordinator, NHS Lothian
Education and publicity
There have been fewer health-check questionnaire returns from potential non-directed donor in recent months – we welcome the publicity campaign planned for January 2024.
A living donation meeting with the organ donation peer educators was organised by Bushra Riaz, which gave opportunity for new initiative updates and discussion.
The Scottish Renal Association provided the opportunity for poster presentations for both Renal Education and Choices at Home (REACH) Transplant and Travel for Transplant, and an invited overview of living donation in Scotland at the nursing/Allied Health Professionals session.
Timely transplantation
A short-term working group chaired by Professor Lorna Marson has been formed to explore barriers to timely transplantation in Scotland, including pre-emptive living donor transplantation and timely listing for deceased donor transplantation. The group consists of representatives from the clinical community, Scottish Government and Commissioners. Initial work to be presented at the Living Donor Forum in Stirling on 8 December for discussion in the afternoon session.
REACH Transplant Programme
A separate report by the REACH Transplant Programme Lead shows encouraging early data on number and range of visits achieved in this first year of Scotland wide rollout.
Living Donor Forum Stirling 2023
The annual living donor forum in Stirling is organised for 8 December 2023. Following the unit feedback, the session in the morning will have a focus on health inequalities in Scotland. We will also welcome the Health Information Scotland team for an update on the economic analysis of living donor transplantation.
