Scottish Donation and Transplant Group written update: December 2024
Written updates from the meeting of the group held on 20 December 2024.
Paediatric transplant activity
Update given by
- Ben Reynolds, Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist
The paediatric service has completed:
- six transplants since 1 April 2024 - four deceased donor transplants and two living related donor transplants - including our first transplant of a patient with primary hyperoxaluria on lumasiran as one of the living related donor transplants
The current deceased donor waiting list has only three patients (one of whom is aged 17 and a half years).
No planned elective living related donors imminently, although a couple of patients are approaching readiness.
Risks include a single surgeon with capacity to do very small patients. Highlighted as a risk previously. A senior trainee with interest in paediatric transplantation will now be undertaking a fellowship in Evelina, London to enhance experience.
