Scottish farm business income: annual estimates 2022-2023

Cereal farm income at record high

Average income for cereal farms was £99,700, an increase of 6% from the previous year. Growth slowed in 2022-23 compared to the increases of recent years.

Higher cereal outputs saw agricultural output increase by 14% compared to 2021-22. In particular, barley output increased by £30,200, or 36%.

Rising fertiliser and machinery costs mostly drove a 12% increase in input costs. Increased input costs were compensated by higher outputs.
