Mixed farm income at record high
The average income of mixed farms increased by 30% in 2022-23 to £85,700.

Agricultural outputs rose by 33%, driven by large increases in barley and cattle outputs. Output from barley rose by 49%, or £47,600 and cattle output rose by 29%, or £26,000.
Increased fertiliser, feed and machinery running costs contributed to a 23% rise in total input costs. However higher agricultural outputs more than compensated for these costs.

Mixed farms tend to make more money than the average farm, but experience fluctuations in performance over time. Mixed farms usually engage in complementary activities like growing crops to feed their cattle.
