Scottish Government probe into leaked budget: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.


Information requested

1a.) Have/did the Scottish Government launch a probe into the leaked budget proposals which were reported by BBC Scotland on December 15 last year?

1b.) If not, why and if you did explain the process of the investigation?

1c.) What was the final outcome of the investigation?

1d.) Any correspondence (including emails, whatsapps and calls) between ministers, ministers offices, special advisers, regarding the leaked budget proposals from December 15 until January 15.

Response

1a.) The Scottish Government investigated its internal information management arrangements in relation to the budget statement.

1b.) The Scottish Government considered the information management processes and examined how data was handled on electronic systems.

1c.) No evidence was found that any information had passed from the Scottish Government to external parties.

1d.) For part 1d of your request, five documents are held. We are able to provide document 1. Some information has been redacted under section 38(1)(b) of FOISA. The reason why this exemption is applicable is explained in Annex A to this letter. We are unable to provide documents 2, 3, 4 and 5 because an exemption under section 29(1)(d) applies to that information. The reasons why these exemptions are applicable are explained in Annex A to this letter.
