Suspicion
  • Report of suspected SVD/ FMD made to local APHA Duty Veterinary Officer
  • Suspected premises statutory notice (EXD01) served – likely for FMD in first instance
  • VI investigates and submits samples to laboratory if disease cannot be ruled out
  • FMD Temporary Control Zone of at least a 10km radius around suspect premises
Confirmation
  • CVO Scotland confirms SVD following laboratory results
  • Infected premises statutory notice (EXD02) served
  • EU Commission notified by CVO UK
Infected Premises
  • Valuation, culling and disposal of all pigs on infected premises
  • Cleansing and Disinfection
  • Controlled Restocking
  • Lift Premises Restrictions
Area Restrictions
  • Protection Zone of at least a 3km radius around IP
  • Surveillance Zone of at least a 10km radius around IP
  • Export controls put in place.
Vaccination Strategy
  • No vaccine currently available
Tracing
  • Epidemiological investigation
  • Forward tracing to look for spread
  • Backward tracing to look for origin
  • Consideration of regionalisation
Surveillance
  • Surveillance in PZ and SZ (including taking laboratory samples)

  • Evidence submitted to EU seeking removal of any safeguard measures applied
