Scottish Health Survey: content review outcomes report

This report summarises changes that have and will be made to the content of the Scottish Health Survey (SHeS) from 2024 onwards. Some of these changes do not apply to the 2024 survey and will be made to future years.

Unpaid caring

During the review we received strong support for retaining the existing unpaid caring questions.

The Scottish Government carers policy team suggested we include ‘something about vouchers, discounts and subscriptions, currently available through the Young Scot Package to the response options for the question asking young carers (aged 4-15) about the type of support they receive. However, the team noted that the package is only eligible for carers aged 11-18. We, therefore, decided that it was not appropriate to explicitly include as a response option, although respondents have the option to include it in the ‘other (SPECIFY)’ option.

Based on this we are going to continue to include the existing carers module on an annual basis in the main interview.
